Welcome to MyStoryList. These Terms of Use apply to the MyStoryList website, mobile apps, and related services, which we call the “Service” below.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use MyStoryList.
1. Accounts and Using MyStoryList
Who Can Use MyStoryList
You must be at least 13 years old to use MyStoryList. If you are not old enough to enter into a binding agreement where you live, you may use the Service only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
You may not use the Service if doing so would break the law or if we have previously closed your account for serious or repeated violations of these Terms.
Your Account
Some features require an account. Please provide accurate information, keep your login details secure, and let us know promptly if you believe someone has accessed your account without permission. You are responsible for activity through your account unless you have told us that it has been compromised.
Usernames, profile details, and other account information must not impersonate someone else or falsely suggest an affiliation with a person or organization.
Using the Service
MyStoryList gives readers a place to discover books, organize reading lists, track progress, write reviews and journal entries, join forum discussions, and connect with other readers.
We give you limited, personal, non-exclusive, and revocable permission to use the Service as intended. This does not transfer ownership of the Service or any MyStoryList software, design, branding, or content to you.
When using MyStoryList, you may not:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, or abuse another person
- Post hateful, discriminatory, sexually exploitative, or unlawfully violent content
- Share another person’s private information without permission
- Impersonate someone else or misrepresent your identity
- Post spam, scams, malicious links, or deceptive promotions
- Infringe copyrights, trademarks, privacy rights, or other legal rights
- Artificially manipulate ratings, reviews, votes, follows, or other community activity
- Use bots, scrapers, or other automated tools without our written permission
- Try to bypass security measures, access restrictions, rate limits, or account controls
- Reverse engineer the Service except where the law expressly allows it
- Disrupt, overload, or interfere with the Service
- Use MyStoryList to break the law or encourage unlawful conduct
Book discussions may naturally include spoilers, difficult subjects, or mature themes. Please use reasonable judgment and treat other readers with respect.
Reviews are also subject to our Review Guidelines.
2. Your Content and the Community
Your Content
You keep ownership of the reviews, posts, comments, lists, profile information, images, and other material you submit to MyStoryList. You are responsible for what you submit and must have the right to share it.
When you make content public, you give MyStoryList a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, copy, format, publish, display, and distribute it through the Service. This lets us do things such as display your review, show your public list, create link previews, and make your forum posts available to other readers. It does not transfer ownership of your content to us.
For content you choose to keep private, you give us permission to store and process it only as needed to provide, secure, and support the feature.
After content is deleted, copies may remain for a limited time in backups, security records, or records we are legally required to keep. Content that another user quoted or incorporated into a discussion may also remain after the original is removed.
Community Moderation
We may review reports and investigate content or activity that appears to violate these Terms or put people, the Service, or the community at risk.
Depending on the situation, we may hide or remove content, restrict features, suspend an account, or permanently close an account. We may act without advance notice when reasonably necessary to address abuse, security problems, legal obligations, or an immediate safety concern.
We are not required to review every post before it appears, and the presence of content on MyStoryList does not mean we endorse it. To report a concern, use the reporting tools in the Service or email [email protected].
Book Information and Recommendations
Book descriptions, covers, publication details, ratings, tags, editions, and other catalog information may come from publishers, retailers, public sources, third-party providers, or community contributions.
We work to keep this information useful, but we cannot promise that every book record will be complete or error-free. Reviews, ratings, recommendations, and reading statistics are provided for information and entertainment. They are opinions and estimates, not professional advice or a promise that you will enjoy a particular book.
3. Third-Party Services and Links
MyStoryList may link to retailers, publishers, author websites, Goodreads, Apple, Google, and other outside services. Those services are run under their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their availability, content, security, pricing, or practices.
When you choose to import from Goodreads, the app opens Goodreads and retrieves the library export you request. Your Goodreads account and sign-in remain controlled by Goodreads. MyStoryList is not affiliated with or endorsed by Goodreads.
Some retailer links are affiliate links. MyStoryList may receive a commission if you follow one of those links and make a qualifying purchase, at no additional cost to you.
4. MyStoryList Plus and App Stores
MyStoryList Plus
MyStoryList may offer optional paid features through a subscription called MyStoryList Plus.
The available plans, price, billing period, included features, and any trial will be shown before you confirm a purchase. The checkout screen provided by Apple or Google is the final source for the price, billing period, and trial terms that apply to your purchase. Prices may vary by country, currency, platform, and applicable taxes.
When you confirm a subscription, the applicable app store charges your store account. Unless you cancel before the store’s renewal deadline, the subscription renews automatically for another billing period and the store charges your account again. If a price change requires your approval, the store will provide the required notice or ask you to confirm it.
If a free trial is offered, it becomes the paid subscription shown at checkout unless you cancel before the trial ends. Trial eligibility is determined by the applicable store.
You can manage or cancel a subscription through the store where you purchased it:
Canceling stops future renewals. Unless the store or applicable law says otherwise, you will keep Plus access until the end of the billing period you already paid for.
Deleting your MyStoryList account or uninstalling the app does not automatically cancel an Apple or Google Play subscription. You must cancel the subscription separately through the store. Refund requests are handled under that store’s policies and any rights provided by applicable law; MyStoryList does not control Apple’s or Google’s refund decisions.
Plus features may change as the Service develops. If a change materially affects a paid subscription, we will follow applicable store rules and legal requirements.
Mobile App Stores
If you download MyStoryList from Apple’s App Store, the app is licensed rather than sold. Unless the App Store listing says otherwise, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs your license to the iOS app. These Terms govern your MyStoryList account and your use of the community and related services. If the two conflict about the license to the iOS app, Apple’s Standard EULA controls.
If you downloaded MyStoryList from Google Play, your use of the app is also subject to the applicable Google Play terms and policies.
You must follow the rules of the app store, internet provider, wireless carrier, or other third party whose services you use to access MyStoryList.
5. Ownership and Copyright
MyStoryList’s Content and Property
The MyStoryList name, logo, software, interface, visual design, and original site content belong to MyStoryList or its licensors. You may not copy, sell, redistribute, or use them to build a competing service without written permission.
Book covers, descriptions, trademarks, and other third-party material remain the property of their respective owners.
You may link to publicly available MyStoryList pages and share content that belongs to you. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without restriction or payment to you.
Copyright Concerns
If you believe material on MyStoryList infringes your copyright or another intellectual-property right, email [email protected]. Please include a description of the protected work, the location of the material you are concerned about, your contact information, and an explanation of why you believe the use is unauthorized.
We may remove or restrict material while reviewing a complaint and may close accounts belonging to repeat infringers.
6. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
7. Service Changes and Accounts
Service Availability
MyStoryList is continually being developed. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features, and we may restrict access temporarily for maintenance, security, or other operational reasons.
We cannot promise that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or free from errors. We will make reasonable efforts to keep it reliable.
Closing or Suspending an Account
You may stop using MyStoryList at any time. You can request account deletion through the app’s account settings or by emailing [email protected].
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly violates these Terms, creates a security risk, causes legal exposure, or harms other users.
Closing an account does not cancel an app-store subscription.
Provisions that reasonably need to continue after an account closes—including ownership provisions, content permissions that apply to retained copies, disclaimers, and unresolved legal obligations—will remain in effect.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms when the Service, our business, or legal requirements change. The revised version will be posted here with a new “Last Updated” date.
If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service, by email, or by another appropriate method. Where the law requires your affirmative agreement, we will ask for it.
8. Disclaimers and Liability
To the extent allowed by law, MyStoryList is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee the accuracy of book information, user content, recommendations, ratings, reading statistics, outside links, or third-party services.
To the extent allowed by law, MyStoryList is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from your use of the Service or your inability to use it.
Nothing in these Terms limits a warranty, consumer right, or form of liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
9. General Terms and Contact
General Terms
These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the agreement between you and MyStoryList concerning the Service, along with any additional terms shown for a particular feature or purchase.
If part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply. If we do not enforce a provision on one occasion, that does not waive our right to enforce it later.
Any mandatory consumer rights available where you live remain unaffected.
